Application for Flexi-School Place

Flexi-School Offer

At Antingham & Southrepps we understand that full-time in-school provision is not best suited to every child. Due to our unique situation, we are lucky to be in a position where we are able to offer some flexibility for some children whose own circumstances and whose family situations will mean that a Flexi-School arrangement will fit the needs of the child and family, as well as the responsibilities of us as a school.

What we can offer:

We can offer a Flexi school model where the child would attend school four days a week, from Monday to Thursday. The Parents/Carers would then supplement the in-school education to ensure the child accesses the full National Curriculum, ensuring that those subjects not learned in school will be fully provided for outside of the four days in school.

The Process:

Families would need to have their child registered at Antingham & Southrepps Primary School, and could then apply for a Flexi School place. The application would involve the following stages:

  1. Fill out an application form, stipulating exactly why a Flexi School arrangement would be right for the child’s education.
  2. Parents discussion with the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher or Senior Teacher to discuss the application, and agree whether this would be a suitable pathway for the child to progress in their learning.
  3. If agreed in principle, set out together the proposed home off site elements of the child’s education – how and when will this happen, what will that learning look like? Agree how the learning off site will be presented and assessed.
  4. If both school and home are happy with the proposal, agree and sign the Flexi School agreement, stipulating what has been agreed for the child’s learning, attendance and consideration of safeguarding concerns.
  5. Regular check in meetings between parents and school over the first 3-4 weeks, and then regular review conversations every half term to check things are working well.

The Learning:

The subjects taught in school from Monday to Thursday would be as follows:

  • English (including phonics, reading, writing composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation).
  • Maths – All number and calculation skills, reasoning and problem solving
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • PSHE & RSE
  • RE
  • PE (one lesson)

The subjects to be learned as part of the off site learning will be:

  • Maths – Space shape and measure knowledge
  • Reading and writing practise.
  • Art & DT
  • French (or Spanish if preferred)
  • Music
  • Computing
  • PE (equivalent to one lesson a week).

Assessment

All formal assessment for core subjects will be in school, using the key assessment papers during specified assessment weeks. These will take place between Mondays and Thursdays.

For education off site, we will agree the form of assessment best suited to the learning that has taken place. This could be in the form of a PowerPoint, a performance, a video, a creative piece of art or a model, a written piece of work summarising learning etc.

Resources

We will provide parents and carers with:

  • Paper, pens, exercise books, rulers etc in order that the child is fully equipped to complete their learning effectively off site.
  • A range of online resources and lessons (in every subject) that they can choose to use to support their child’s learning
  • A copy of our school curriculum and the National Curriculum, clearly showing the specific areas of learning (skills and knowledge) that need to be covered whilst the child is not in school.
  • Different model learning plans and/or timetables, to help support the child’s learning away from school.

Children with SEND

Every application for Flexi Schooling will be assessed on its own merit, and places will be offered (or not) considering every aspect of the application. If a child has additional needs, this will not mean that he/she will automatically be given a Flexi school place. Nor will it mean that they are not. As with every aspect of school, full consideration will be given to ensure that we are fulfilling our responsibilities in line with the Equalities Act.

Attendance Expectations

We will expect that the child will attend for the 80% timetable for the period of the Flexi School agreement. Additional days off will not be authorised, except for illness and medical appointments.

When the child is not in school on a Friday as agreed, the register will be marked with Code C.
